Les Bouviers
A husband and wife winning team have embarked on yet
another year of culinary success in the heart of
the Dorset countryside! Kate and Chef/Patron James
Coward have been a pro-active pair in the promotion
of their highly successful restaurant Les Bouviers
for over 17 years! They hold regular calendar landmark
functions, events and outings all of which are always
highly subscribed. 2006 saw a brave move to new and
larger premises barely a mile from the original site.
Now housed in a superb and imposing building Les
Bouviers welcomes regulars, locals, couples, businesses,
tourists and functions alike. Dorset’s only
AA Five-Star, 2 Rosette Restaurant with Rooms boasts
six wonderfully appointed bedrooms with features
such as steam showers and air baths and one even
has a four-poster bed! Far more than one would expect
from an establishment of this size. Ingeniously the
swimming pool, which is an asset in its own right,
converts to a 120-cover function room that is gaining
popularity for weddings and anniversaries. Back to
the dining as that’s why we are here! The à la
carte menu is exquisite. Start your journey with
a rich lobster bisque with crab and courgette ravioli
and crème fraiche or wild local wood pigeon
with a wild mushroom risotto, red wine and beetroot
reduction and beetroot syrup. There is always a refresher
in between courses at a small supplement, then a
choice of fresh fish, vegetarian or meat dishes including;
braised fillet of wild brill with pak choi, crayfish
and vegetable fricassee or wild loin of venison with
game, rosemary and chorizo sausage, Parisienne potatoes,
swede purée and Côtes de Rhône
reduction. Desserts provide an irresistible close
to the meal as you will understand; Les Bouviers’ renowned
tangy lemon tart with saffron and crème fraiche
ice cream or hot passion fruit soufflé with
raspberry ice cream and coconut and Malibu froth
(also at a supplement but worth every penny!). The
wine list is exceptional as well and it is so refreshing
to see Dom Perignon available by the glass – a
reflection of the standards set by Kate and James.
