They say timing is everything. This adage couldn't ring more true than for Fuel Harmonics plc, and its hero product - the Fitch Fuel Catalyst.
Fuel Harmonics was established in 2007 by director Tim Rhodes, 42, (when unleaded petrol had a modest average price of 94.7p per litre), and is the UK and Ireland’s sole license holder for a US developed fuel saving device known as the Fitch Fuel Catalyst.
Today with such extreme fluctuations in fuel prices and with the future of VAT and international economic influences worryingly unpredictable, the Fitch is viewed as an ally in both finance and environment.
Basically, the Fitch improves fuel consumption and reduces harmful emissions, it almost sounds too good to be true. Dependant on engine capacity the units can either be dropped into a fuel tank or fitted in-line as a 'pre-filter' unit to both diesel and petrol engines.
Since 2007 there seems to have been an uncanny correlation between unstable fuel prices and the emergence of the Fitch in key consumer and trade markets within the marine and road sectors.
This progress has been fuelled itself by the enviable energy of the managing team and by the undeniable and firm evidence provided by some of the country’s most influential names in testing.
For example, 2009 saw both the Millbrook Proving Ground and EP Barrus publish findings that illustrated 5.3% and 5.7% improvement in fuel consumption respectively alongside impressive reductions in harmful emissions. E P Barrus subsequently became a national distributor being the first firm to credit the unit with a UK listed part number.
Whilst one would think that with this data in hand the Fitch would be propelled, unassisted into every combustion engine on the planet, but this is a hard market to crack, one full of sceptical engineers plagued by many products with unsubstantiated claims, yet Fuel Harmonics has held its own.
The company's achievements are significant. For example the Fitch can be found saving fuel and assisting in carbon reduction on engines from Aurora, belonging to Carnival Cruises, to Corus Steel’s locomotives.
Further strengths can be found in other established distributors such as; Midland Chandlers the inland waterways specialist and MOST (Marine One Stop Technologies), which boasts highly qualified directors including James Fanshaw CBE a retired Royal Navy Executive Officer who commanded three warships, the UK Task Group and the Devonport Flotilla.
More recently the Road Haulage Association (the road sector's largest affiliated organisation with over 9,000 members nationwide) was contracted to sell the Fitch through its highly subscribed Internet Haulier’s Shop - a retail landmark for the firm.
The company has a strong base of shareholders who understand, as the directors do, the current impact and potential of this highly topical, relevant and valuable product that respects the bottom line as well as the environment, an unlikely partnership in any market!
The future is bright for Fuel Harmonics and the Fitch, deals in the pipeline include multiple-orders from the locomotive, shipping and road sectors and with the first installation in light aircraft in the bag, trade interest, product knowledge and environmental respect continues to grow.
